The governor of Tasmania Kate Warner was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the Government House announced.

In a statement, the Government House said it was the most common form of lymphoma and is treatable.

The Governor will need a series of chemotherapy cycles for several months.

The statement states that it is otherwise fit and healthy and should maintain its duties during treatment.

Professor Warner and Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman will hold a press conference this morning.

She was sworn in as the first woman governor of Tasmania in 201

4 after a long career in jurisprudence.

Four years ago, she was appointed a member of the Order of Australia for her service to the law, particularly in the areas of reform and education.

Others to come.
