On the heels of the news that future Destiny games will be self-published by Bungie while the developer splits from his franchise agreement with the Activision publisher, Blizzard says that BattleNet will continue to support Destiny 2 on PC. In today's statement, Activision and Bungie said both companies would work together to transition the franchise Destiny seamlessly, and it seems like part of this will be to make sure the current sequel gets full support on BattleNet.
Blizzard tweeted the confirmation of support by assuring those who play Destiny 2 on PC that the division between Bungie and Activision will have no impact on the current game.
Destiny 2 will still receive full BattleNet support and we do not expect any interruption of services or gaming experience. https://t.co/FFOE1iae3R

Having Destiny 2 on BattleNet was a big problem for Bungie when it was announced before the launch of the game, with Blizzard and Activision give the strong support of the game as a game Destiny launched for the first time on PC with the sequel. Indeed, Destiny 2 was the only non-Blizzard game at its launch to be featured on BattleNet.
Obviously, while BattleNet will continue to support Destiny 2 because the game was published by Activision, it is highly unlikely that Destiny 3 or future games will remain on BattleNet. With Bungie following the path of self-publishing, it is likely that the franchise will shift to other more open online services like Steam.
Although the life span of Destiny 2 is unknown the annual pass of the game will cover the additional contents at the fall of this year. An analyst says that Destiny 3 will be launched in 2020, and this would be the first game of Destiny self-published . Based on how things went with the population of players in Destiny 1 when it came out Destiny 2 it is likely that the vast majority of players jump to Destiny 3 and leave Destiny 2 behind rather quickly. It is not known how long BattleNet will continue to support Destiny 2 if at all, once Destiny 3 will be launched, but for now the game and its players are still set to get the full support service.
Destiny 2 is now available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
