59 min : Aubameyang slams another into the sidenetting from a 45-degree angle.
58 min : Sporting's solid defense to prevent Mkhitaryan from breaking through. Nani collects the ball on the edge of his box and carries it forward to the edge of Arsenal, before Lichtsteiner puts an end to his trouble.
57 min : Ramsey misses the possible escape of Sporting in the bud with a good sliding tackle on Diaby.
54 min : Smith-Rowe flies down to the left and jumps into the box. Then he hangs a useful cross towards Aubameyang, who gets a header but not clean.
51 min : News about Welbeck is that he was taken to hospital for an x-ray.
48 min : Sporting raid on the left and send a deep cross towards Diaby, whose palladin tightens into Jenkinson's arm, which was only one meter away. No penalty.
47 min : Jenkinson launches a 30-yard burst blaster, followed by his limelight from a similar distance in the first half. This was even farther away from the target, since it actually hit him back to the half-way line. Third time lucky?
46 min : Let's go even before most of the Arsenal fans have regained their seats. Just missed the decisive goal, but Aubameyang fired on the sidecret after a cross from Mkhitaryan
First half: Arsenal 0-0 Sporting
boring. Arsenal dominated but failed to penetrate a disciplined but limited sports team. Half could be described as a non-event if it were not for Welbeck's sad injury, which was taken away on a stretcher in pain after suffering something that appeared to be a severe ankle or leg injury as he landed after a head shot .
45 + 3 min : Aubameyang rests on a tasty cross from the right. Lichtsteiner can not get a firm header.
45 + 1 min : There will be at least another three minutes of interruption, largely due to the injury of the ill-fated Welbeck.
43 min : Sporting seemed to enjoy a rare possession until Mathieu played a pass weak in midfield. Mkhitaryan snapped forward before being thrown to the ground by Acuna. Free football for Arsenal off to the right.
39 min : Lichtsteiner has a long-range explosion and does not approach at all. 39; goal.
38 min : Guendouzi plays a good ball between two defenders to free Lichtsteiner from the right. The Swiss cross is canceled.
36 min : Ramsey, very involved in the attacks of Arsenal, wins a corner kick, which is then brought to short of him. But his cross is poor.
33 min : The sport remains very disciplined while Arsenal continues to pass it around them but not often through them.
29 min : After a few minutes of field treatment, Welbeck is transported from the camp on a stretcher. The crowd recites his name and loudly applauds, Nani, the former teammate of Wenbeck's Man United, rushes to offer a helping hand to the player, who captures him with appreciation. No replay was shown, so it's hard to guess what the wound might look like – a damaged ankle looks likely – but there are obviously fears that it could be quite serious.
25 min : Lichtsteiner bends over a cross from the right. Welbeck makes another good jump and sends the 10-yard header to the target. But it is a routine salvation for the goalkeeper. And Welbeck was seriously injured during the descent. Without a replay it is not clear what happened, but it is in true pain. The bearers have been summoned.
24 min : Arsenal continues to dominate and is starting to find a groove that annoys visitors .
21 min : Nani beats two defenders of Arsenal for the sake of old times near halfway. Lichtsteiner, annoyed, pulls him out with a pair of scissors. The referee shows the mandatory yellow card.
20 min : Freekick to Arsenal near the right-hand corner after Lichtsteiner throws a defender into a foul. Mkhitaryan's delivery is headed by Welbeck.
18 min : Guendouzi, after a shotgun with Ramsey, shoots an evil low cross from the right. Mathieu, under the pressure of Welbeck, makes him turn to his own five-meter goal. But a defender returns to what is not online!
17 min : another beautiful turning point of Smith-Rowe, starting from a right sprint . But Acuna chases him and retrieves the ball.
16 min : Smith-Rowe moves his feet to make room for a shot from the edge of the box, but then sends his effort to the sky. That's not what I meant when I suggested that the game should take off.
14 min : This game has not taken off yet. It's all very low.
12 min : Mkhitaryan frees himself in the box and tries to dig a cross for Welbeck, but is deflected in the corner.
10 min : Sports attack on the right, Gasper gives Diaby the chance to overtake Jenkinson. But it was too fast for his teammates, so there was no one available to convert his low cross.
8 min : Iwobi releases Welbeck on the left with a ball to fetch. Welbeck's cross is not so good, but he won a corner. Arsenal is not at the height and in the end he does it with Jenkinson, who tries to attack him in the top corner at 30 meters. Sail on the stands.
7 min : Jenkinson, running forward from left back, sends a cross to the penalty spot, but there is no one there for meet him.
5 min : Guendouzi is captured as he flies over the ball at the edge of his area by two Sporting players. Sokratis manages to eliminate the danger. A few moments later, on the other side, Welbeck launches an attempt at authorization from the goalkeeper, sending the ball out for a throw-in near the corner flag. So a bit of slowness in the back from both sides.
3 min : Nani's first involvement ends with his stumbling in half from Ramsey.
2 min : Arsenal has monopolized possession until now but has not breached the opposition, deployed in a good training 4-4-2 old style.
1 min : Sporting, with an all-gray kit with brilliant lime numbers, takes the kick-off and loses the ball within five seconds.
Teams come out of the tunnel and arrive at the camp. They are greeted by warm applause from the fans of the house and from some noisy songs of the section of distance. Participation seems to be close to capacity.
Other interesting results to date today: the Rangers lost 4-3 to Spartak in Moscow despite having driven three times. The part of Steve Gerrad has not even sent a man, for once. Elsewhere, Chelsea won 1-0 at Bate Borisov, Lazio beat Marseille 2-1 and Dynamo Kyiv beat Rennes 3-1.
"A born-born Londoner here," announces Tiago Marques. "Sportinguista since childhood and has adopted Arsenal at the beginning of my education, a very surreal experience to watch a match between the two teams I support! I would be lying if I said I had not been waiting for it for years Regardless, I just hope it's a cracker of a match! Win for me at the end. "Are you writing from the stadium? Are there many like you? I imagine there are at least some. Enjoy!

Today's plan, as far as Unai Emery is concerned, is that Arsenal confirms its their progression to the next round of the Europa League as group winners beating their closest rivals, Sporting. Arsenal has already cut the Portuguese to pieces in Lisbon thanks to a goal by Danny Welbeck, so the victory here would have made them untouchable at the top of the group thanks to their head-to-head record. Then they could field even the weakest formations for their remaining two groups if they wanted to, even if it would be a shame to waste an epic record of unbeaten if it's still intact by then – they could stretch it up to 15 games today. Sporting is third in the national championship, but it will be safe to advance in this tournament even if it loses today. But a positive result here would do them a power of good in their attempt to stay above Vorskla and Qarabag. Despite their loyal European pedigree, they have been historically weak in England – except in the north-east of the country, where they beat Newcastle and Middlesbrough in the distant past (they also defeated Sunderland from the 1973 World Cup Cup, despite lost at Roker Park), so maybe it's time for a number in a capital team.
