5 ways the keto diet has changed not just my weight but my overall health

I followed the ketogenic diet back and forth for over four years, but I decided about a year ago to fully recover while I was trying to lose a considerable amount of weight and get off

Now, about nine months later, I will weigh 125 pounds less than when I started, and I am much happier and healthier than as never before.

This change is largely due to strict adherence to keto, but it has been helped more than just the number on the scale.

Here are five ways in which the diet has changed not only my weight but also my general health.

. It has restrained my dependence on sugar.

It is safe to say that I was addicted to sugar – in fact, I still am – I do not think you ever overcome an addiction, simply im equal the behaviors that help you conquer the harmful behaviors that you encourage.

Before I began to lose weight and fully commit myself to Keto, I would have to binge myself with candy and many other sugary sweets – pastries and cakes, biscuits, etc. – several times a week, which have always made me feel worse, I have endangered my health further and I took care of pounds.

keto is a low carbohydrate diet, in which it is supposed not to consume more than 20 grams of net carbohydrates per day, which means that the sugar is out of the window.

Cutting myself out of the cold turkey was incredibly difficult at the beginning, but the longer I went without all the unhealthy garbage I was eating before, the less I found myself wanting it. I found some excellent keto-friendly dessert recipes when I felt I had more control over my cravings, and those more than made up for the lack of sugar in my diet.

It's nice not to be controlled by sugar anymore.


2. It helped me develop a healthy relationship with food.

While many would consider a fashion diet or feel it is not sustainable in the long run, I can really say that eating low in carbohydrates will be a long-term thing for me. Not only did it work wonders to help me lose the pounds, but it also diversified my food intake and therefore my palette encouraging me to enter the kitchen and try new recipes using ingredients I had never tried before.

Of course, I always liked vegetables and I was not a stranger to chicken thighs and steaks, but eating a high fat, moderate and low carbohydrate diet meant I had to plan my meals a little more strategically and creatively, especially if I did not want to get bored.

This gave me a real love of cooking and, spending so much time preparing the daily intake of food, I learned to think and appreciate what I was putting into my body every day and the way it was he was feeding me. Today, it is less important to spread it without mind and more on how to prepare meals that will keep me full, strong and healthy.


3. It helped me get fit.

There are many people who successfully follow a keto diet without training, but I knew that if I really wanted to increase my health (and increase my weight loss), I needed to get my body moving. Since I work at home as a writer and editor, I spend a lot of my time sitting at a desk. Of course, I pass the dog twice a day, but the word "exercise" was not part of my vocabulary for a while.

As I began to eat better, I also began to use the gym membership I was paying for and I did not use it for months and I soon fell in love with it.

While initially I could not do more than 10 minutes on the indoor bike and felt that my legs were turning into jelly after five minutes on the elliptical, more weight I lost my consumption of Keto and more I used my diet to feed my body, the more energy I had and the stronger I had. These days, I run regularly on the treadmill for an hour and I also do weekly spin classes. Is fantastic.


4. It has greatly reduced my risk of obesity-related diseases.

The idea of ​​the old school that fat makes you gain weight has been debunked many times, but many people still believe it. I'm not one of them; I know that sugar is toxic and is at the root of many of the health problems faced by millions of people around the world, from hypertension and from diabetes to obesity and heart disease.

5. It has increased my confidence.

This is perhaps the most obvious change of all. While losing weight through the keto-based diet made me feel less conscious of wearing certain styles of clothing, the real boost of confidence came from pursuing my goal and working hard to achieve it.

With every milestone I hit, I feel more and more confident in my ability to make great things happen, and while I know there are a million and one way to get what I have so far (and what I want in the future ), I'm really happy to have
